GONG at Klub Hybrydy, Warsaw: Spacerock at Its Peak – November 21, 2024

In the legendary Klub Hybrydy, one of Warsaw's oldest and most popular student clubs, Gong proved why they have remained a cornerstone of experimental music for over five decades. Known as a hotspot for unforgettable concerts and events, Hybrydy provided the perfect backdrop for Gong’s bold and boundary-pushing sound. With its rich history as a cultural hub for students and music lovers alike, the venue created an intimate yet dynamic atmosphere for an evening of psychedelic and avant-garde sonic exploration.

Gong's current tour continues to honor the band’s extraordinary legacy. From their foundation in a French commune in 1967 to surviving lawsuits, lineup changes, and the passing of their founder Daevid Allen in 2015, Gong has consistently maintained their core essence: groundbreaking, adventurous, and beautiful music. The current lineup – Kavus Torabi (vocals, guitar), Fabio Golfetti (guitar), Ian East (saxophone, flute), Dave Sturt (bass), and Cheb Nettles (drums) – delivered a vibrant mix of new material from their latest album Unending Ascending and timeless classics from their vast catalog.

At Hybrydy, the audience was treated to a diverse setlist, seamlessly blending tracks from different eras. The hypnotic My Guitar Is a Spaceship and the pulsating All Clocks Reset showcased their freshest work, while iconic pieces like IAO Chant & Master Builder paid homage to their rich history. With a fusion of surreal soundscapes, spacerock, and jazzy improvisation, Gong captivated the crowd and immersed them in their unique sonic universe.

The synergy between Gong and the intimate energy of Hybrydy was undeniable. The concert highlighted their enduring creativity, proving that Gong is not merely a relic of the past but a current and vital force in the music world.
