ASHBREATHER to bring progressive sludge onslaught to ProgStorm Festival 2025

ProgStorm Festival is excited to welcome Montreal’s progressive sludge metal trio, Ashbreather, to the stage on Sunday, August 10, at Le Ministère. Evolving from their roots playing Opeth covers in Quebec taverns, the band has forged a unique sound that fuses crushing sludge, technical progressive rock, and atmospheric post-metal, all within conceptual narratives that push the boundaries of heavy music. Often compared to the early ambition of Mastodon, the psychedelic mystique of Pink Floyd, and the grand storytelling of Ne Obliviscaris and Ihsahn, Ashbreather crafts a sonic experience that is both captivating and complex. Their latest album, “Mouth of the World (2024), continues this tradition, immersing listeners in a swirling vortex of progressive sludge and atmospheric space rock, further cementing their status as one of the most innovative acts in modern metal.

Drummer and vocalist Colin MacAndrew shared his excitement about their first-ever festival performance, promising an unforgettable show for the first edition of ProgStorm.

The three of us in Ashbreather are ecstatic to be sharing the stage with such incredible artists this summer! With this being the first edition of ProgStorm, we will be bringing to you our proggiest material to date, to ensure that the closing day of the weekend starts off with a bang. Heck, if people are up for it, we might just open up the Sunday with a 37-minute epic… We hope the prog community is ready for some space rock-tinged sludge metal, just as much as we are to bring it to you!
