The Chronicles of Father Robin – Live at We Låve Rock festival in Norway

The Chronicles of Father Robin is one of those bands that you really must see live whenever you have the chance! And this show was truly special! A 3-hour set saw the band playing their entire three-album catalogue, opening the We Låve Rock festival, held for the first time in a new venue, this time in the beautiful town of Asker in Norway. Though we missed the (in)famous barn stage we had heard so much about, I must say that this show by the Norwegian ensemble wouldn't have been as amazing if it had been held in a different setting. The band carefully prepared stage props -digital screens in different shapes- and different wardrobes on every change of "album", to enhance the story told in their conceptual masterpiece.

Smoke, lights, and projections were seamlessly integrated into the performance, amplifying the narrative elements of the story and pulling the audience deeper into Father Robin's world. The visuals were in perfect harmony with the music, enhancing the grandiosity of the tale. And the diversity of instruments added to the richness of the sound, with everything from intricate guitar work and mandoline to flute melodies and electronic synth sounds, along with mesmerizing vocal arrangements that showcased the band's versatility. At times, the vocal harmonies felt almost orchestral along with enthralling synths sounds which wrapped and filled the room with layers of texture and emotion.

Despite the band playing three full albums back-to-back in their ambitious quest to tell the complete Father Robin story, the show never felt exhausting or overdrawn. It was remarkably well-paced, with dynamic shifts that kept the audience fully engaged throughout the full set.

By the end, it was clear that the band had delivered something truly unique, and everyone, on and off the stage, had a big smile, a shared sense of having witnessed something monumental. And for those who couldn't attend, the good news is that the show was filmed for an upcoming release.
