Scar Symmetry live at Prog Metal Mania in Munich! 3rd May 2025

Scar Symmetry

Scar Symmetry closed Prog Metal Mania 2025 with a show that clearly thrilled a large portion of the audience. The Swedish band, founded by guitar virtuoso Per Nilsson, is a staple in the progressive melodic death metal scene, known for fusing aggressive growls with clean, melodic choruses and razor-sharp guitar work. They had two vocalists moving constantly on stage, one delivering intense growls, the other singing clean and crystal clear.

While their style, firmly rooted in the classic melodic death/prog metal tradition, isn't exactly my cup of tea, it’s impossible not to appreciate the level of craft and precision they bring to the stage. Nilsson’s guitar playing in particular was a highlight, showcasing why he’s considered one of the genre’s top players.

The band was tight, professional, and clearly in command of the crowd, delivering a powerful and polished set. Scar Symmetry deservedly headlined the festival. Even as someone who doesn’t personally connect with their music, I could see why so many were beyond excited to have them close the day. It was a big and energetic end to a packed day of performances.

Closing words

All in all, I absolutely loved this first edition of Prog Metal Mania. As I mentioned earlier, it might have been the debut, but it felt like the organizers have been doing this for twenty years. Everything ran smoothly, the team was incredibly professional yet warm and welcoming, and they clearly went above and beyond to make everyone—artists, crew, and audience—feel at home.

It was a true celebration of music, passion, and community. I sincerely hope this is just the beginning and that we’ll be heading back to Munich for many more years of Prog Metal Mania.
