The Anchoret live at ProgPower Europe 2024
Making their live debut at ProgPower Europe 2024, The Anchoret from Canada absolutely drew in everyone. Seriously, Sjiwa Baarlo was packed like we’ve rarely seen, especially for a midday set.
The band was presenting their highly praised debut album "It All Began with Loneliness" (2023), a pandemic-born music project led by main man Eddy Levitsky (guitars) and PPE veteran Sylvain Auclair (bass and vocals, known from Heaven’s Cry). For the live show, they gathered an impressive lineup of musicians -from saxophone to drums- that fit in so perfectly on stage they’ve now become a full-fledged band.
Their unique fusion of progressive metal, jazz, and classic rock elements - complete with saxophone, keys, guitars and bass solos, mellotron touches, heavy riffs, and blast beats - offered something for every prog lover. The show was both emotional and joyful, and you could see on their faces how much fun they were having on stage, well no, they were having a blast! That energy radiated into the crowd and bounced right back: a full circle of pure happiness!
It was one of those magical ProgPower moments: band and audience completely in sync, feeding off each other. A standout performance, no doubt, and one we’ll all remember.
