OU live on Sunday at ProgPower Europe 2024
OU was easily one of the most anticipated bands of this year's edition. Seeing a band from China already sparks curiosity, but seeing a progressive metal band from China? That’s something truly unique... and they did not disappoint!
Sjiwa Baarlo was fully packed, and from the moment they took the stage, it was clear we were in for something special. OU delivered an eclectic and powerful performance, blending ethereal soundscapes, crunchy riffs, and sudden blasts of energy with traditional Chinese musical elements and stunning vocals. Their transitions between blissful serenity and high-intensity passages were seamless and emotionally engaging.
Fronted by the mesmerizing Lynn Wu, the band’s presence was both musically and visually captivating. A fun detail we learned only later that day: the bassist on stage, a Cuban musician filling in as an emergency replacement, had only been with them for a few weeks. Not only had he never played progressive metal before, but he learned the entire set by heart - and absolutely nailed it!
OU didn’t just meet expectations, they delivered a show that many will remember as one of the highlights of the weekend.
