The Aphelion premieres music video for brand new single Deserter

The Aphelion are a hard-hitting progressive metal band from Ottawa, Ontario who have been active since 2015. Members, Evan Haydon-Selkirk (lead vocals, bass guitar, keyboard), James Cabral (guitar, keyboard), Tyler Davis (guitar, backing vocals), and Nathanael Livingstone (drums, percussion) have crafted an image, sound, and musical bond on Canadian stages through nearly a decade of collaboration.

The sonic goal is one of innovation, dramatic flair, and emotional gravity, with unexpected shifts in genre to create contrast and bring levity. With upcoming double album “Nascence” and “Senescence”, The Aphelion are once again telling an album-spanning story inspired by philosophy and the human condition; a tradition that began with their 2018 release “The Labour Division”.

Today, the Canadian prog metal quartet unveils the very first glimpse into the world of “Nascence”/”Senescence” in the form of an exclusive music video premiere of the first single, ‘Deserter’!

“We are incredibly proud to announce the first single off of our new album “Nascence”. ‘Deserter’ was the obvious choice for a lead single; it’s a great cross-section of what the rest of the album has in store, and a barnstormer of a tune from the first second to the last.

We’ve been building towards this moment for a long five years. This project has been a labour of love for us all, and we’re so excited to finally be sharing the first piece of this two album spanning beast we’ve been toiling away on.”

About the creative process surrounding the music video, the band had the following to say:

“With this video we feel we’ve for the first time been able to capture the energy and heart of our live shows. It was a fantastic experience getting to work with the Dark Moon Productions team on this video! Joe and Lisa really brought the best out of us, we couldn’t be happier with the set and lights that Rob put together for us, and working with all of the super cool vintage synths was very exciting as long time gear nerds.”
