Felix Martin premieres Gatherpiece (Single+Video)

The new single by Felix Martin, ‘Gatherpiece’ is out now. It is part of the upcoming new album “The Gathering” out on February 9th 2024. The single features renaissance period inspired melodies in the prog-metal style, as well as a blend of 16-string guitar and 10-string bass happening for the very first time.

I remember I was looking for sources of inspiration, so I started analyzing the artwork of Magic The Gathering, which I’m a huge fan of. The melody and song came to me after spending a day just looking at the card’s artwork. The main theme / melody which ended up becoming the song was very inspired by medieval music. The rest of the song is pretty much based on that initial melody. I also love how my current FM Guitars are setup to play chord melodies, where it almost sounds like a hybrid between a guitar and a piano” Says Felix.

Drummer Nic Kubes adds, “When Felix brought me brought me the song I was instantly hooked, mainly because I’m a sucker for combining genres. So when these Baroque-ish melodies are flowing from a guitar player like Felix with this dramatic metal sound, there are a lot of exciting possibilities for counterpoint, and to take advantage of all those dynamic moments Felix throws at you. It’s a lot of fun.

The artwork is an anime-style character called Gatherpiece, created by Felix. The album consist of a total of 10 characters, each one representing a song.

The video was filmed in downtown Los Angeles and it features LA-based musicians Nic Kubes on Drums and Joan Torres on 10-string Bass.
