Airbag @ Poppodium 013 Tilburg – May 24, 2026

Airbag – melancholy, atmosphere and controlled intensity at 013 Next Summary In a well-filled 013 Next, Airbag delivered an intensely atmospheric performance built around melancholy, slow-burning tension and musical refinement. Following a strong opening set by Lesoir...

Lesoir reveals renewed power in a packed 013 Next As support act for Airbag, Lesoir was given roughly forty minutes on stage in a packed 013 Next, but that proved more than enough to leave a remarkably strong impression. The band from Maastricht presented itself in...

The Gathering – Mandylion 30th Anniversary Tour Rockhal, Esch-sur-Alzette       Summary Thirty years after the release of Mandylion, The Gathering proved in a nearly sold-out Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette why the band still holds such a unique place within the European...

Sum of Seven – Echoes of the Hypermind

Picking my favourite tracks was difficult because there isn’t a bad one amongst them. Influences are inevitable and sometimes obvious here and there but that doesn’t diminish the fact that this is a great album.

Perfect Storm – Stairs

Perfect Storm carefully crafted “Stairs” prioritizing quality and integrating new members, resulting in a strong successor to their debut. With more powerful drums, adventurous keyboards, and expanded guitar solos, the album blends progressive rock with heavier elements and hints of progressive metal. Their thoughtful approach has enhanced their unique sound while avoiding a mere repetition of their first album. 9/10

Fleshgod Apocalypse – Opera

I know technical death metal is not for everyone, but beyond the death metal element, there’s a dimension of theater, poetry and drama, and a message of power and standing against all odds, that I think will inspire almost anyone.

Simone Simons – Vermillion

“Vermillion” is an unexpected surprise, and a very welcome addition to the endlessly growing culture of symphonic and progressive metal that the Dutch are so good at.

DGM_Endless

DGM – Endless

I thought this was going to be just another solid DGM album. It is DGM at their best with a few extra ingredients thrown in to spice things up. I have a few albums by them, but this is a fantastic addition. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before the next offering and who knows what else is in store.

Never Obey Again – Trust

If their output continues as it has so far, it will be hard to keep up with them. This is a happening band who you may well find on the line-up of a festival sometime soon. I hope I am lucky enough to be at one such event because I’m sure this material will transfer very well to the live environment.

Obscura – Persefone – Disillusion – Live at Doornroosje, Nijmegen – 28 Sept 2022

As a passionate concert goer and a fan of the extreme arts, this evening was one I couldn’t miss. The legendary tech-death group Obscura recently had a tour through Europe with support acts Disillusion and Persefone, the latter being a beloved favourite of mine. It is a tour that had been announced before the pandemic only to be repeatedly postponed until it finally happened. During this time both frustration and anticipation were left to boil, so when the riffs finally unleashed, it was catharsis time.

UK Tech-Fest 2022

Day 1 – Thursday 30th June 2022 The pandemic robbed us all of two years and the things we looked forward to gradually became diminished. After this interminable hiatus where we saw the best little festival in the land pushed back not once but twice, there was finally...

Epica – Arcane Dimensions Tour @ COS Torwar, Warsaw Epica’s performance at COS Torwar in Warsaw marked the closing chapter of an evening that was opened by Charlotte Wessels and Amaranthe — two sets that are covered separately elsewhere on this website. Some bands...

SPACE Quartet in Tienen – Progressive Spirit, Pure Improvisation

At first glance, SPACE Quartet might not seem like an obvious feature for an international progressive rock platform. A Belgian improvisation collective built around an electric sitar does not fit neatly into the conventional prog canon. Yet that is precisely why...
