Vulkan live at Prog Metal Mania in Munich! 2nd May 2025
Vulkan
Vulkan, the Swedish progressive rock band from Karlstad, delivered yet another stellar performance at Prog Metal Mania 2025. I’ve been a long-time fan of these guys, and after being blown away by their show at ProgPower Europe, I was thrilled to catch them again in Munich. They didn’t disappoint.
Formed in 2006, Vulkan is known for their intricate compositions, emotive atmospheres, and that unique blend of heavy prog with cinematic soundscapes. Their 2020 release "Technatura" remains a landmark album in modern prog, and they continue to build on that momentum with every show.
Live, they sound just like their records: polished, balanced, and dynamic, but with the added intensity and heart you can only get from being played in front of you right there in the moment. The whole band was tight as ever, and the sound was spot-on. There was a brief tech hiccup when drummer Johan Norbäck’s vocal mic dropped, but that turned into a lighthearted moment when frontman Jimmy Lindblad stepped in to hold the mic for him mid-song. I was lucky to catch that on camera. Just the sort of genuine little thing that reminds you how connected their live presence is.
Vulkan showed once again why they’re one of the most exciting and consistent acts in the progressive scene. The crowd loved every minute of it. A tight, emotional, and absolutely solid set all around. Don't miss them if they play near you!
