ProgPower Europe interviews: Hackberry!
This is a series of short interviews ProgPower Europe did with some of the bands billed for the 2023 edition of the festival, to happen between 6 and 8 of October 2023, in Baarlo, The Netherlands.
Hackberry is a five-piece instrumental band from The Netherlands, founded in 2015. They play a mix of progressive rock, stoner, metal and psychedelia and are known for their strange time signatures, tempo changes and dynamics. After the first self-released EP ‘Desert Orchid’ at the end of 2016, the debut album ‘Hackberry’ was self-released in 2018. In 2023 they are back with a new record called ‘Breathing Space’, released by Construction Records which was very well received by the prog-industry. With a new album under their belt, new epics in the making, and performances on Into the Void, Club Void, Northern Prog Festival and ProgPower Europe, they are ready to spread their instrumental journeys further into the world!
This is your first performance at ProgPower, how did you get to know the festival?
While playing at Northern Prog Festival, several fans told us they also would like to see us perform at ProgPower Europe. We couldn’t agree more!
What are your expectations of this year’s ProgPower?
We expect a very well organized festival, with a lot of visitors who really appreciate prog and take the effort to fully indulge in the music.
Being able to meet the members of a band that is playing is one of the things people appreciate at ProgPower Europe. What would you say to visitors that would like to meet up after the show?
We always love talking to the public at live shows! As we are prog aficionados ourselves, we’ll be around the whole weekend to check out the other great bands, so there is plenty of time to come and meet us.
What other bands in the ProgPower Europe 2023 line-up are you looking forward to?
Two members of Hackberry saw Wheel at Prognosis in 2022 and were very impressed, so we’ll take the rest of the band to see them on Friday. We are also looking forward to Chaosbay who play after us on Saturday, a young band which balances progmetal and pop in a non-cheesy way, which is certainly not easy.
Anything you really would like to share with our audience?
We are very honored to be playing on this festival, we will give everything we’ve got to open the Saturday, and we hope to see you all there!
