THE APHELION to kick off the first edition of PROGSTORM Festival 2025

Ottawa-based progressive metal band The Aphelion will kick off Canada’s first all-progressive metal festival, ProgStorm, on August 9, 2025, at Le Ministère in Montreal. The band, known for their powerful performances that blend technical skill, melody, and immersive storytelling, has shared stages with acts like Protest the Hero, Ne Obliviscaris, and Alestorm. Their latest album, Nascence, marks a big step forward in their sound, launching a multi-album concept that explores transformation and existential themes, with influences from Pain of Salvation, Dream Theater, and Enslaved.

The band’s current lineup—Evan Haydon-Selkirk (vocals, bass, keys), James Cabral (guitar, keys), Tyler Davis (guitar, backing vocals), and Colin MacAndrew on live drums—keeps pushing their craft to new heights. Reflecting on the festival, guitarist James Cabral said:

“We’re beyond excited to be back on stage in Montreal for what we feel is a historic moment for the Canadian prog scene. It’s an honor to share the stage with so many amazing bands that are redefining the boundaries of rock and metal!”

Presented by The Progspace and organized by Metal Shed Productions, ProgStorm Festival will be Canada’s first-ever festival fully dedicated to progressive metal. Happening August 9-10, 2025, it will showcase everything from classic prog metal to the most extreme and experimental sounds. Stay tuned for more lineup announcements!

I consider that to be truly Prog!
