Autocatalytica exclusive premiere: ‘Zippler’

Autocatalytica is a bubbling cauldron of scatter-brained prog-metal insanity helmed by Guitarist/Vocalist Eric Thorfinnson.

Gearing up for the release of their third album “Powerclashing Maximalism” on October 16, the Toronto based musical maniacs are premiering the first single ‘Zippler’, exclusively right here on The Progspace.

Says mastermind Thorfinnson:

“‘Zippler’ was a last-minute addition to the breakneck rehearsals conducted between drummer Neilroy Miranda and I. I felt like we needed one super fast track to fill out the record and this song came together very quickly. It’s a mix of Mars Volta-esque groovy clean sections and Protest the Hero-esque proggy guitars, replete with an epic-chorus and stomping breakdown. It features clean vocals from Parliament Owl’s and Telomere’s Devlin Flynn and screams from Plethora’s Gary Walsh. Lyrically it toys with the idea of Metaphorical truth, which is the concept of assuming something is true to your advantage even if it’s not absolutely objectively true. I.E. treating all guns as if they are loaded regardless of the veracity of this claim is a prudent tactic to prevent death.”

He adds about the upcoming album:

“‘Powerclashing Maximalism’ is an expression of the many different facets of progressive and heavy music I am engaging at this point in my life, with little to no regard for thematic consistency between tracks. Each song is a fully realized island of uniqueness that expresses something totally different from the previous one. On the last record, I felt like I was really losing perspective with what was good and quality (especially in the vocal department) seeing as I did so much of it completely isolated. With this record, I really wanted to move away from that mindset and integrate as many collaborators as possible to create a sort of “Broken Social Scene” of metal type vibe. This was a fantastically inspiring experience and I am really grateful for having been able to work with so many different amazing musicians throughout the process.”
