Norwegian prog newcomers Sungoose bring the melancholy with The Burial
Sungoose delivers progressive metal with improvisatory elements. With the help of a somewhat unusual instrument in metal, namely the saxophone, Sungoose aspires to stretch the borders of the genre and create a unique sound together. Their music draws inspiration from bands like Leprous, Opeth and King Crimson, and their lyrics discuss themes such as inner conflict, relations to other people, and grief.
The group formed in 2023 in Kristiansand, Norway, and the group’s members studied music together at the University of Agder. In October 2024 they played as support for the deathjazz band Agabas at a nearly sold out venue in Kristiansand.
Their first single ‘Stone Cold Walls’ was released October 2024, and has gained attention and praise from all over the world. Now, ‘The Burial’, set to release on February 7th, is the second single from their upcoming debut-EP, with a release date soon to be revealed.
The lyrics of ‘The Burial’ deal with burying parts of yourself and getting lost in the process. The blend of silky smooth saxophone on top of repetitive guitar-riffs gives this song a soaring soundscape.

This goes straight to my heart! All the good things blended together. Even two singers wow… I’m a bit tired of instrumental albums tbh. Good job. Very excited to hear more. And big thanks to The Prog Space for discovering new music.
I love how the saxophone just fits in perfectly here and the vocals are something else. I really love their style
