Lechuga – The Search Pt.3: The Hypothesis

Artists like Benjamin Lechuga deserve just more than some few lines of recognition. He (and his band of very talented musicians) deserve the attention of every prog outlet out there! This is a musician that bursts quality and dedication on every note. A flowing, eclectic but homogeneous mix of progressive elements with jazz and funk grooves that doesn’t really relate to world music: this is progressive metal of a different kind! 4.5 ★ /Van

The Pineapple Thief – Dissolution

The Pineapple Thief’s “Dissolution” is an excellent album that present to us a current and difficult concept, which blends simple melodies with complex song structures in a masterful way. An easy to listen and very enjoyable album that seems to make an useless effort to conceal the prowess each band member show on their instruments. Out 31st Aug 2018 via Kscope. ★4/5 Van

Gazpacho – Soyuz

Gazpacho know how to make music that not only transports you to parallel universes, through soundscapes and effects that are truly unique in the prog and art-rock genre, but to me their biggest achievement is to produce thought-provoking music with their distinctive dark but beautiful sound atmospheres. Soyuz is one of the best example of this. 5/5 ★ /Van

Orphaned Land – Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs

This profound concept in Unsung Prophets and Dead Messiahs shines with the conflicts of our modern world: wars and mass manipulation, everyday life, politics, information and money controlled by some few powerful, We won’t be free of these chains unless we try to be true to ourselves while searching for the light and truth. Though these lines might fall short to what this album really transmits, musically and lyrically. A bold statement and a solid album with beautiful melodies. What else can we expect from Orphaned Land but an exceptional album? 4.5/5 ★

Sons of Apollo – Psychotic Symphony

There is something else from this band, that even if so damn close to the classic Dream Theater sound, it makes Sons of Apollo totally different and a band to follow. After all, every musician have their own very well developed sound and personalities and coming from different musical backgrounds and experiences. In any case, the result of this mix is as best as we get: a solid band and a solid album. They have not invented the wheel, and are not even close to perfect it, but the new paint they added to it fits very, very well! 4/5★

Tangerine Dream – Quantum Gate

Patterns, rhythms, melodies create such a multilayered structure from start to finish on this album that can easily be traced to the original concept Edgar Froese wanted to explore and majestically developed by the remaining members of the band. They created such a journey full of wonderful moments and not only musical! A journey through atmospheres and universes only Tangerine Dream can re-create in music form. A real gem of an album!

Gleb Kolyadin – Gleb Kolyadin

Those who follow the Russian prog-chamber duet Iamthemorning know very well that Gleb Kolyadin, is not only a masterful pianist, he is as well an excellent composer. But his qualities as composer and pianist truly shine on this, his first solo album, an album where he explores a search of identity in a unique storyline. This album is a perfect card into the musical palette of an excellent young musician. It draws a big ear to ear smile in my face to hear and see that there is so much talent everywhere in the world. Gleb Kolyadin adds so much color to our favorite music by creating this jewel of an album with the ink of a classical music background perfectly blended into the modern progressive rock palette. 5/5 ★
