Kotebel – Cosmology

What an album! Barely a flaw, barely a down turn, barely a moment to turn around, to look somewhere else. Hooked from start to finish, this album is simply put: a masterpiece.

The very diverse and extense musical expertise of both musicians, and that connection only father and son can have, can be felt through all the songs. The result is this beautiful album. Very different to what you could expect, not progressive rock, but with a lot of elements from it, and a varied array of styles. A legacy and a family effort from start to finish. 3/5★

Nov 8, 2017 | Albums
“From Silence to Somewhere” is Wobbler’s 4th studio album, yet another solid step in a short but highly acclaimed discography. True to their origins and influences, the Norwegians continue their musical career in a display of musicianship and well-matured compositions both with complex and simple arrangements with melodies that will stick in your head. Only 4 songs for a total of 47 minutes of Prog-grandiose. From beautiful Mellotron solos and edgy guitar riffs, to renaissance inspired passages to odd touches of flamenco and latin grooves to Italian recitals. This album has it all! A combination of elements and sounds that will surely find a place in the heart of any prog-lover of bands the likes of Gentle Giant, Yes, ELP, King Crimson, Genesis, PFM, etc. 5/5★

Beautiful music created with the heart, in a stream of pure improvisation, captured live without editing. Just as it came pouring from the passion and expertise of Shahriyar Jamshidi and Raphael Weinroth-Browne bringing together two different musical heritages, two different cultures that when both agree and hold each other’s hands, make clear we’re no different at all. This album is a celebration of music, of life and creation. Whether you’re into chamber instrumental music or not, I can only recommend you to buy this album now. It is one of the best things you could do today. 5/5 ★

Oct 28, 2017 | Albums
What might be considered ‘prog’ in “Of Adoration” is that Zaius venture into adding not only interesting changing rhythmic patterns, but the aforementioned general djent-post-rock-instrumental-album formula is entirely dismissed. This produces a fresh approach against the current trends in instrumental prog/post-rock music. 3,5/5

Sep 29, 2017 | Albums
Now and then a rising star appears in the vast universe of contemporary music. I think Hong Kong-based rock and blues musician, session and tour guitarist and composer Jason Kui, is one of these. Here we have a young guitar virtuoso who is carving his way into the western world. This can be assessed when listening to his debut album “Absence of Words”. Packed with 7 timeless beautiful songs that range between rock and blues, to jazzy tunes, airs of pure progressive metal. With so much technology available nowadays to make music easier for artists, it is a bliss to hear music that has been made from the heart and composed with the soul. Excellent debut solo album for a young and promising rising star.

Almost 10000 people went to Tilburg (NL) for a weekend to be part of an outstanding moment in rock history! The Progspace had to be there!

“Children of the Sounds” is an album that floats and make you float in a cloud of positiveness and beauty only experience and the inspiration drawn from the exuberant swedish nature could bring. A real gem in this genre, and in my opinion one album I’ll be coming back to very often. Such a complete album full of harmonious melodies, energy and good vibe is the kind of uplifting push I might need when my mood is not at its best. Thank you for creating this beautiful music!

I had no idea what I was going to find. Not only I found the “old” Marty Friedman the teenage me came to love, but I also found so many different levels, so much depth and always something new to be found. “Wall of Sound” is a real difference to what a guitar solo album usually is. I loved the different instruments, the arrangements and how everything blended in so well. For sure not a conventional guitar axe solo album!

Sep 12, 2017 | Albums
“Covered in Black” is not a concept album, but a themed album. It is as much a progmetal album as it is a melodic metal album. It is an album with moments that will really blow you away with their massive sound, as well as it will take you on the wings of its melodies with some electronic ambient keys here and there, and for sure it is an album that will crush your heart with its depth of feelings and the, at times, very sweet sounding vocals.
