Terravia – A New World

Norway has produced many excellent prog bands, and I see no reason why this group shouldn’t join that list.

Ihlo – Legacy

“With Legacy, Ihlo have taken a bold step into the upper echelons of modern progressive metal. Legacy is not just an album, but an emotional journey through bleak atmospheres, soaring melodies and unsettlingly relevant themes of control, consumerism and decay. Echoes of well known bands may resonate, but Ihlo’s voice is unmistakably their own: dramatic, immersive and deeply human.”

Connect the Circle – Wolf in the Sky

entirely instrumental. Taking up almost 20% of the album it is the most varied and pleasing track for me.
This is a band I haven’t come across before, but I’m glad I have now. I’m going to investigate their other albums because I feel that I might have missed out. It will be interesting to see what comes next because they have a penchant for telling stories in detail both lyrically and musically.

cover Philosophobia - The Constant Void

Philosophobia – The Constant Void

These nine tracks spanning 64 minutes provide time well spent. I’m glad this band is still going and producing quality material. I hope they have plans for a third album, because that would be very welcome indeed.

Impureza_Alcazares

Impureza – Alcázares

The straightforward death metal parts sound much like many other bands. The flamenco sections are delightful, but the best bits come when they merge the two styles in what can only be described as Death Flamenco. They prefer to call it Hispanic Metal, and if that’s not progressive enough, I don’t know what is.

RiversOfNihil_RiversOfNihil

Rivers of Nihil – Rivers of Nihil

Rivers of Nihil’s self-titled album feels like an evolution of the band’s sound, composed masterfully to create the layers of emotions: from despair and anger to hope, without sounding too technical or “deathy”.

SPACE Quartet in Tienen – Progressive Spirit, Pure Improvisation

At first glance, SPACE Quartet might not seem like an obvious feature for an international progressive rock platform. A Belgian improvisation collective built around an electric sitar does not fit neatly into the conventional prog canon. Yet that is precisely why...
