RotM_Jan2026

January 2026 starts the year slowly with 16 Highlights

Releases of the Month Januar 2026 with The Hirsch Effekt, Zu, HamaSaari, Cold Night for Alligators, Textures, Enshine, Frore 5 Four, Yoni the Bassist, Sloen, Widek, Karambolage, Ascend the Helix, Juodvarnis, Alkaloid, Kostas Sampanis & IOTUNN

The Veer Union – Reinvention

I find the diverse unpredictability of the material appeals to me a lot, despite the shortness of the tracks. These 10 songs are predominately melodic but with an aggressive edge.

SPACE Quartet in Tienen – Progressive Spirit, Pure Improvisation

At first glance, SPACE Quartet might not seem like an obvious feature for an international progressive rock platform. A Belgian improvisation collective built around an electric sitar does not fit neatly into the conventional prog canon. Yet that is precisely why it...

Skylimit – Skylimit

This EP isn’t anything I haven’t heard before. But it was mostly intended to be a compact dose of energy with some catchy hooks and grooves. And that mission was fully achieved.

Frogg – Eclipse

There is no denying that there is a lot of talent on show here. Frogg obviously have a desire to produce something unusual and it will be interesting to see where they go from here.

The Five Hundred – Ghostwriter

This is an album that showcases The Five Hundred’s willingness to push boundaries and explore new musical territories. I’m sure they must be very happy with the results of their hard work. Hopefully this will inspire them to evolve even further and I for one can’t wait to see where this exciting band goes next.

Distant Dream – The End of the World We Know

Distant Dream isn’t trying to blow minds, break records or reinvent the wheel in any way. They’re more in the business of providing pleasant emotional value and superb sound quality, for a fully immersive listening experience.

PaulSadler_TheIrrational

Paul Sadler – The Irrational EP

This man never fails to impress with his musicality. Whether it be extreme or melodic and everything in-between, it is always accomplished and professional. I am sure some of you are hoping for a resurgence of Spires like I am. For now though, whatever he chooses to compose is just fine by me, because the quality is guaranteed. Who knows what will be next? Whatever it is, it’s bound to be worth waiting for.

Q&A with Arjen Lucassen

Arjen Lucassen welcomed us to his home via webcams and we had a lovely conversation with the dutch hippie about his new album as Ayreon: “Transitus”. Love, horror and betrayals instead of Sci-Fi, finding Tom Baker (legendary “Dr. Who”) as the narrator and Mike Mills taking over his heart… all this and more on this new Q&A here in The Progspace!

Q&A with Rendezvous Point

There is no talent knob: Interview with sound engineer Chris Edrich

In our series of  “behind the scenes” in the progressive music world, today we’re having a chat with sound engineer Chris Edrich. You may know him for his sound work with Norwegian proggers Leprous or Klone, Hypno5e, The Ocean or Kadinja . His vantage point behind the sound desk gives him a unique perspective on the bands he runs sound for, so if you want to know about this side of the stage, enjoy the interview!
