Exclusive Premiere: SUBMASQ unveil new single ‘Monuments’

We are proud to present the exclusive premiere of ‘Monuments‘, the brand new single from SUBMASQ, taken from their upcoming seventh studio album, “Spirit Animal“, due for release on 18 September 2026 via Willowtip Records.

Formerly known as Subterranean Masquerade, SUBMASQ continues its musical evolution with a new identity while remaining true to the adventurous spirit that has defined the band throughout six acclaimed albums. Their unmistakable blend of progressive metal and rock, world music, Middle Eastern influences and fearless experimentation has made them one of the genre’s most distinctive voices.

‘Monuments’ offers the first glimpse into “Spirit Animal”, an intensely personal record that explores trauma, addiction, bipolar disorder, collective memory and the ongoing search for identity and belonging. Across nine songs, the band combines emotionally direct songwriting with rich arrangements that incorporate ethnic instruments into a modern progressive framework. The album also features a guest appearance by Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal.

Produced by Tomer Pink, “Spirit Animal” was recorded across several studios, with drums tracked at the renowned Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden. The album was mixed by Adam Noble, whose credits include Paul McCartney, Biffy Clyro and Nothing But Thieves, and mastered by Grammy nominated engineer Robin Schmidt, resulting in the band’s most polished and ambitious production to date.

We’re excited to share the first glimpse into an album we’ve been crafting over the past few years. This song is called ‘Monuments’—our way of bringing together the progressive metal we live and breathe with the grunge music we’ve always loved. It’s a song born from dissonance, sonic grit, family trauma, buried secrets, and the need to preserve memory. We gave this song everything we had—everything that hurts, burns, and refuses to disappear.

The music video was filmed during one of our recent live shows. We wanted to capture the thing we love most—the moment when every boundary between the band and the audience disappears. This song is dedicated to you. See you on the road!

The release also marks the beginning of a new chapter for SUBMASQ through their partnership with Willowtip Records, expanding the band’s international reach as they prepare for an extensive touring cycle. Following appearances at major festivals, including Dong Open Air in Germany, the band will head out on a European tour with Rhapsody of Fire in January 2027, with further international dates to be announced.

With  “Spirit Animal”, SUBMASQ delivers what is arguably its most personal and accomplished work so far. If ‘Monuments’ is any indication, the band’s next chapter promises to be every bit as bold, emotional and unpredictable as its past.

Watch our exclusive premiere of ‘Monuments‘ below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
